Learn traditional realism techniques for painting and drawing from classically trained instructor Sadie Valeri.
All levels welcome! This is an excellent method for beginners, and experienced artists will significantly advance their understanding of proportion, structure, and light with these time-tested techniques.  


Extra Long Pose SUMMER 2010
5-Day Long Pose Model Session

Non-instructed

Draw or paint from a live figure model in one long pose for a solid week in a beautiful north-light studio in San Francisco's Mission district.

A great opportunity to create a highly finished drawing or painting under natural north light.

Both drawing and painting are permitted. Oil painters must use odorless mineral spirits. Studio is well ventilated.

Light easels and some tabourets are provided. If you have a portable easel you may bring it. Depending on the number of participants, we may set a maximum size requirement of 18x24 inches for artwork.

This model session is non-instructed.


10am-5pm, Monday - Friday for one week.

Study figure drawing with classically trained instructor Sadie Valeri in a small group class. Learn 19th century atelier methods for depicting accurate proportions, convincing light, and organic form through the careful study of a long pose.

This traditional method will strengthen your drawing ability whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced artist.

Classes are offered at the instructor's beautiful north light studio in the heart of San Francisco's Mission neighborhood, one block from the 16th and Mission BART stop.

Learn all the steps for creating a realistic still life oil painting.

This class is designed for beginners, and for artists who want to solidify fundamental drawing and painting skills.

Composition, proportion, value, and color will be covered so students can master the essential principles for creating believable realism.

Technical aspects of using and mixing paint, mediums, supports and brushes will also be covered.

Oil Painting II (Advanced)   WINTER 2011

Learn traditional layering and glazing methods for creating highly realistic still life paintings that show the most subtle effects of light and form.

This class is for artists who have a familiarity with drawing, and some painting experience.

Refined techniques for achieving realism will be covered, including detailed technical information on mediums, paint, supports and color mixing.

Draw or paint from a live model in a beautiful studio in San Francisco's Mission district.

Daytime sessions are lit by natural north light.

Evening sessions: model is lit from a single light source, with daylight bulbs and fluorescent over easels.

Model sessions are non-instructed.

Good ventilation (Painters must use odorless mineral spirits).

Huge north light studio in Belmont, CA, 30 minutes south of San Francisco. Classical painting and drawing workshops and ongoing classes offered by master instructors.

Andrew Ameral Studio
Andrew taught at the Florence Academy for 6 years and now offers long pose figure drawing and painting classes at his Oakland studio, as well as écorché/anatomy classes. The studio is beautifully set up for classical long pose study.

SADIE J. VALERI
Sadie Valeri graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and has since studied with some of the most important classical realist living masters, including:
Juliette Aristides, Michael Grimaldi, and Ted Seth Jacobs at BACAA, and Jacob Collins at the Hudson River Fellowship.

She has taught graduate students at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and currently offers drawing and painting classes to private students at her own studio.

Sadie is an Art Renewal Center 2010 award-winning artist.
